Financial Janitor ("we", "our", "us") operates the Financial Janitor mobile and web application (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, including your email address when creating an account through Firebase Authentication, and financial transaction data when you connect a bank account via Plaid.

When you connect a bank account, Plaid provides us with transaction data (merchant names, amounts, dates, categories). We never receive or store your bank login credentials — Plaid handles authentication directly.

How we use your information

We use your information to provide and improve the Service, including:

• Displaying your transaction history and subscription tracking
• AI-powered categorization of expenses using Google Gemini (via Firebase AI Logic)
• Generating IRS Schedule C estimates (not tax advice)
• Receipt OCR processing for expense documentation
• Sending you alerts about recurring charges (Ghost Shield)

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the Service:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, cloud functions, analytics, AI processing
• Plaid — bank account connectivity and transaction data

Data security

We implement industry-standard security measures including Firebase App Check enforcement, encrypted data transmission (TLS), per-user Firestore security rules, and server-side access token handling for bank data.

Data retention

Your financial data is retained in your account until you request deletion. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

Your rights (CCPA)

Children's privacy

Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
